After following her family and grandchildren from San Francisco to Austin, Texas in 2008, Gloria fell in love with barbecue and the practitioners across the Texas Hill Country. She began studying their histories and tradition, completely immersing herself in the world of Texas barbecue. After learning about the pit masters’ craftsmanship and their years of dedication and work, Gloria knew she had her story. Filled with a passion for food and a new project on her hands, she discovered the barbecue joints across Central Texas, finding that each had something special to offer.
Gloria enjoys sharing recipes and food-finds with family and friends, and often travels to Europe and Asia in search of new foods and recipes to add to her library. She is known as a go-to person for where to eat, what to cook and where to find unusual ingredients. Austin and the Texas Hill Country proved to be a rich and textured landscape, serving as the perfect setting to foster her growing love affair with barbecue and the deep-rooted culture surrounding it.
Barbecue Lovers Guide to Austin is Gloria’s first book. She is currently working on a second edition with recipes and expanded content.
